Frequently Asked Questions
These are some of the most commonly asked questions we receive from customers. If you cannot find an answer to your question here please make contact with us and we will be more than happy to help.
1: Do I need a Firearms Licence or a Special Permit to purchase Remote Drug Delivery Equipment?
No, in New Zealand the Arms Act Section 22(1)(a) provides an exemption for Tranquilizer Guns so a Firearms Licence or Special Permit is not required.
2: Are the Darts pre-loaded with drug/medication?
No, all Darts are sold empty for the user to load at time of use.
3: What type of Dart do I need? I see many different kinds.
The darts are designed based on the projector you use. Type C for Cartridge Fired Projectors, Type P for Air and Gauged Co2 Projectors, Type U are a universal dart that can be used in all Pneudart and other manufacturers Projectors.
4: What are the advantages of a Triport needle?
Triport needles allow the medication to disperse in 3 areas rather than just one. This helps prevent white tissue damage and avoid push-back on higher volume darts and thicker medications.
5: Why won't my medication go into the Dart?
It is possible your filling needle is the wrong gauge or too short. Be sure your fill needle is at least 3/4" longer than the needle/cannula on your dart. If you still experience problems, the dart may have already detonated - contact us for further information.
6: What is the most common projector in my field?
Evaluating your distance requirements and volumes of medication you will be likely to need will lead you in the right direction.
Air and Co2 short range projectors are for close range, small volume darts.
Air and Co2 long range projectors reach approximately 35-40m with small volume darts and can be used at closer distances with larger volume darts.
Cartridge Fired and Gauged Co2 Projectors acheive greater delivery distances and support larger volume darts.
7: I already own a dart projector manufactured by another company, can I use the Pneudart RDD Darts? If so, what type of RDD Dart will I need?
The Type U RDD Dart with its universal tailpiece has been designed to be compatible with most projectors manufactured by other companies. If ordering Type U Darts for use with another make of projector please inform us of the type and model so we can confirm the most suitable dart for this. Please note: We do not recommend the use of any dart projector that doesn't have an adjustable power control.
8: Why do darts fall out of my air powered projector?
It is possible that you have lost your detent assembly which is a small "C" shaped ring with a ball bearing that helps hold the RDD in place prior to firing.
9: Can I preload my Darts?
Preloading darts is not recommended. But is ultimately up to the user.
10: Do any of the injectable medications used to treat cattle cause necrosis (lesions/tissue damage)?
Yes, as identified within the Pharmaceutical Company Medical Guidelines of many antibiotics.
11: How frequently do I need to clean my projector?
Your projector needs to be cleaned on a regular basis and always after use. Medication sprays and drips can cause corrosion in the barrel of your projector and be detrimental to future performance.
12: What brand of blank .22 charges or Co2 should I purchase locally?
CCI brand charges and Pneudart or Crosman Co2 are the most consistent.
13: What is the shelf life of RDD Drug Delivery Darts?
RDD Darts are guaranteed for 18 months from the date of purchase, however they continue to be usable from 3 to 5 years after this as well depending on conditions and storage.
14: Can I store my projector with Co2 or RDD's in it?
The seals on the projectors can be compromised by prolonged exposure to the Co2. It is best to remove any cylinders prior to storing your projector for 12 or more hours.
